The statement by liong kong that the balance on the Whampoa Dock Co. account, viz., 62812.70 (our figure $2812.70-- $525.00 = $2,287.70) was paid by the Dock Company after 31st March, 1949 and was due to that Government is not understood, and we require payment of $2,287.70.

4. Finally, in Hong Kong Savingram No. 1345 dated 18th December, 1950, which covers the two matters referred to asove, that Government assumes in the last 1950
paragraph thereof that the overall outstanding balance on the Hong Kong B.M.A. account will now be written off and that no further action on the account is required by that Government. The outstanding balances, with Hong Kong's remarks as at 6th July, 1949, (Savingram 525), are as following:

There was no written guarantee of repayment and recovery is still under query. It is possible that a small portion of the balance will be recovered.
No financial statement has been produced but the matter is under query.
In these cases we shall be glad to have Hong Kong's comments with regard to further efforts made towards recovery and any additional particulars relating to the cases which they may be in, the position to supply that will assist us in presenting the cases to the Treasury for permission to write-off. We shall, of course, not be in a position to confirm Hong Kong's assumption until Treasury permission has been obtained.
I am sending a copy of this letter to the Crown Agents, their letters reference P/G.o. Hong Kong dated 16th February 1951 and 13th March 1951 respectively refer.
